Why I Stopped Offering Discovery Calls to Everyone to Streamline My Small Business for Better Results

Hey there! As a small business owner, I've come to realize the importance of making the most of my limited time. Recently, I made a significant change in my approach to managing discovery calls, and boy, has it made a world of difference! In this blog post, I'm excited to share with you why I decided to stop offering discovery calls to everyone and how this decision has positively impacted my business. So grab a cup of coffee and let's dive in!

1. Limited Time

Okay, let's be real. As a small business owner, time is like a rare gem. Offering discovery calls to everyone who showed interest in my services was gobbling up a significant chunk of my day. Don't get me wrong, connecting with potential clients is great, but I realized I was neglecting other crucial tasks that are essential for growing my business. Time for a change!

2. Quality vs. Quantity

You know the saying "quality over quantity"? Well, it holds true for discovery calls too. I found myself having conversations with people who just weren't the right fit for my business. It was like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Not only was it a waste of their time, but it was also a waste of mine. Ouch!

3. Burnout

Imagine having the same conversations over and over again, day in and day out. It can be exhausting, trust me. I started feeling the burnout creeping in, and that's a big no-no. To provide my clients with the top-notch service they deserve, I needed to maintain my energy and enthusiasm. Offering discovery calls to everyone wasn't helping me achieve that goal.

4. Focusing on Ideal Clients

Ah, here comes the game-changer. I decided to shift gears and offer discovery calls only to potential clients who have gone through a pre-qualification process. By doing this, I can focus on connecting with those who are most likely to become my ideal clients. It's like finding the perfect puzzle piece that fits just right. This saves me time and ensures I'm providing the best service to those who will benefit the most from what I offer.

The Downside of Offering Discovery Calls to Everyone:

Let's get real for a moment. When my discovery calls were available to the public, chaos ensued. Here are some of the issues I faced:

People booked calls left and right, but guess what? Many didn't show up at all or strolled in fashionably late. Talk about a waste of time!

Some folks who booked the calls turned out not to be my ideal clients. It was like trying to sell snow to penguins. Not a great fit, to say the least.

What started as discovery calls often turned into free consultations. I mean, hey, I'm here to help, but let's keep it fair, right?

It became painfully clear that my time and efforts weren't being utilized effectively. Low conversions and lacklustre outcomes left me scratching my head.

Due to these challenges, I had to take action. I made the tough decision to disable public access to my discovery calls, opting for a more efficient and effective approach.

And there you have it, my friend! Though offering discovery calls to everyone may seem like the default approach, it wasn't the right fit for my small business. By shifting my focus, prioritizing my time, and pre-qualifying potential clients, I've created a streamlined process that maximizes productivity and ensures a better match between myself.
